Within STMJ, publishers and scientific editors partner with the research and clinical communities we serve in disseminating and utilizing trusted research outcomes. Our customer (author, reviewer, editor, and reader) expectations are continually evolving and becoming more sophisticated, while the opportunities to effectively leverage data, tools, and technology are increasing.
Publishers build strong, trust-based relationships and networks in research communities and with scholarly societies, using our insights and data to deeply understand their needs. Creating innovative, commercially impactful strategies to develop our journal portfolio in response to evolving customers’ needs and effectively managing journal-associated editorial networks are also core publisher responsibilities.
Scientific Editors establish relationships with diverse external editorial teams, working collaboratively with them to assess submitted research papers and reviewer feedback. Some Scientific Editors may also engage in identifying and inviting reviewers and authors to contribute. Guiding authors through various aspects of the publishing process including supporting authors' publishing decisions related to transfer between journals is another important aspect of a Scientific Editor role.
