(Photo by Alison Bert) This week, Comparably, the global workplace culture and compensation monitoring site, named Elsevier in the top 50 Best Companies for Career Growth opens in new tab/window, and placed CEO Kumsal Bayazit in the top 10 Best CEOs for Women opens in new tab/window and the top 20 Best CEOs for Diversity opens in new tab/window.
The list highlights the highest-rated workplace cultures of large companies (more than 500 employees) with an international footprint. Ratings are derived from current employees around the world who provide anonymous feedback on Comparably.com within the past 12 months.
This set of awards marks the first time we’ve been recognized in the Career Growth category, and as this award is voted for by the people of Elsevier, it seems appropriate to hear from some of those who have shared how Elsevier has supported their careers.
“I have grown in bounds both professionally and personally.”
Earlier this year we heard from Irene Crilraj, Conference Content Manager, who works in our Chennai office. She talked about the ways Elsevier has taken her in unexpected directions and helped her develop her skillset and career:
The past years have been very enriching for me, and I have grown in bounds both professionally and personally, thanks to the various leadership programs available within Elsevier. I successfully completed the Harvard Business Publishing RELX Emerging Leader Program opens in new tab/window and the Elevate Leadership Coaching training opens in new tab/window among others. A common thread I found holding the key to unlocking most leadership traits is communication. As the late James Humes opens in new tab/window, a professor of language and leadership and speechwriter for five US presidents, said: 'The art of communication is the language of leadership.
At Elsevier, my favorite Employee Network group — Connect to Communicate — gives me a platform for my creative expression and an opportunity to hone my communication skills while satiating my desire to make a positive impact on people around me. As part of this group, I had the wonderful opportunity of heading a series of global webinars about Effective Communication Across Cultures. The sheer numbers of colleagues who attended these webinars shows how much importance they place on this topic. I feel grateful for all these opportunities, and the sense of accomplishment helps fuel my passion further.
There are also several learning platforms, training and mentoring programs, and Employee Resource Groups and Employee Network Groups within Elsevier that provide various avenues for employees to pursue their passions and make a difference.
“I am loving the opportunity.”
We also heard from Victoria Pearson Esser, a Senior Designer at Elsevier who draws on her creative expertise to design covers for our books. She wrote:
Elsevier has not only provided a professional, stable working environment, but my colleagues also helped me realize that personal development is very important. I am so privileged to be part of Elsevier’s Developing Talent for Gender Equity Program. There, I am receiving the guidance and support I have yearned for my whole professional career, and I am loving the opportunity. The program also allows me to form a mentoring connection with someone who is guiding me further in my career journey.
Elsevier continues to teach me many things. I believe in a progressive world, a purposeful world and the empowering role of research. I believe in a healthy work-life balance. And what I love most about working at Elsevier is the culture of respect for each other. And I love being able to help, share and celebrate success.
