Gary has worked at Western Sydney University since 2006 and currently oversees a diverse team responsible for data and systems management, post-award grant management, research finance, and contracts. He is an expert in research management systems, analytics and reporting, research quality, evaluation and rankings.

Gary was a member of the Global Rankings Working Group and participated in the compilation of the submission for the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, where WSU ranked 1st in world in 2022, 2023 and 2024. He has extensive experience managing the national Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) assessments for WSU and was seconded to the ARC in 2020 to provide expert advice as a pre-cursor to the national review.
