Hinnerk holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, Germany. His work experience includes various roles in the field of chemical information retrieval including 18 years as nomenclature specialist and cheminformatics analyst at Elsevier.

He joined Merck in 2022 and in his current projects he is working together with R&D colleagues from different business sectors to create solutions for managing and visualizing IP data linked to chemical structures.
