Talk Title: Botanical authentication of plant food supplements: current trends and challenges
Joana S. Amaral obtained her PhD in Nutrition and Food Chemistry in the University of Porto. Currently, she is a Professor at the Department of Chemical and Biological Technology of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança and research member of the Mountain Research Center (CIMO).
She served as president of the Food Chemistry Division of the Portuguese Chemical Society (2009-2012). Currently, she is member of the Executive Board of the European Chemical Society (EuChemS) and chair of the Food Chemistry Division of EuChemS.
Her main research interests focus on two lines, (i) the development of methodologies for detecting adulterations and assessing the authenticity of different foods and plant food supplements, and (ii) the evaluation of bioactive compounds in foods, with special focus in wild edible plants, and the valorization of agri-food by-products.
She has published over 85 papers (H-index 34), 14 book chapters and edited a book. She is/was PI of 6 national projects and 2 bilateral actions, participates in 1 COST action and is/was member of over 25 national and international projects (including H2020-BBI, EFSA tender, PRIMA and HORIZON-RIA).
