Conference speaker
Dr. Paula Berton is Research Associate in the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department at the University of Calgary (Calgary, Canada). She is also Chief Scientific Officer of CalAgua Innovations Corp, a spin-off company formed to commercialize some of the ionic liquids-based innovations generated in the labs of UCalgary.
She received her Ph.D. in Chemistry at the Universidad Nacional de San Luis (Argentina). She continued as a postdoc in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Alabama and at McGill University (Montreal, Canada). She was Chair of the latest Gordon Research Seminar in Ionic Liquids, held in Maine, USA, in 2018.
Dr. Berton has more than 10 years of global expertise in the selection and design of ionic liquids for specific tasks, primarily for the creation of sustainable and efficient separation and purification processes, with applicability in the areas of biomass and unconventionaloil sectors. Her research interests are designing applications and processes based on ionic liquids for waste valorization and developing more sustainable processes for fuel production and environmental remediation.
