Talk Title: Pathogen Genomics: An ancient DNA perspective

Verena Schuenemann currently works at the University of Basel as a professor for archeological sciences.

Her research focuses on ancient pathogen genomics, and her mission is to uncover the long-term evolution of pathogens of humans, animals and plants as well as their interactions with the environment. Verena Schuenemann started her scientific career at the University of Tübingen, where she obtained her two PhDs, one in biochemistry and another in archaeological sciences. She then continued there as a postdoctoral researcher and group leader before moving to the University of Zurich in 2017 as an assistant professor for paleogenetics, and joining the University of Vienna as an assistant professor for gene-culture coevolution from 2022 to 2023.
