Professor

Oslo Metropolitan University

Professor Arash Soleiman Fallah BSc MSc PhD DIC MRAeS MASME FHEA Professor Soleiman Fallah is currently a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet). Prior to joining OsloMet he was an Associate Professor in Vibration and Dynamics at Brunel University London and before that an Assistant Professor at Imperial College London’s Department of Aeronautics. He has had Postdoctoral Fellowship appointments at Imperial College’s Civil Engineering and Material Science departments as well as King’s College London’s Mechatronics and Robotics group.

He has been the Course Director and Module Responsible/Leader for several BSc and MSc courses at Imperial, Brunel, and OsloMet. He is the Vice-President Scandinavia of The International Society of Multiphysics and a member of the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Multiphysics. His research interests include: dynamics of composite wind turbine blades, assessment of blast and impact resistant structures, study of fracture in quasi-brittle materials using peridynamics and XFEM, frequency filtering in phononic metamaterials, lattices and hyperlattices, eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM) formulation of plated structures, damage and fracture in composites and constitutive visco-elastic, plastic and visco-plastic formulations for metals and composites.

His primary research interest, however; has been computational and analytical modelling of blast and impact loaded monolithic, composite and hybrid structures and systems. These include fibre-reinforced plastic composites, fibre-metal laminates, hybrid perforated and protruded joints, phononic and acoustic metamaterials and lattices and fractals. He has had several successful grant applications in the United Kingdom (British Council), Switzerland (SNSF), and Norway (RCN) and has collaborated with scientists in many countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Switzerland, China, and the Republic of South Africa.

He has published over 60 Journal papers in the leading journals in the field and well above 20 conference papers. He has supervised 9 PhD and many MSc and BSc students and has assumed administrative roles as the Chair of Extenuating Circumstances and Prospective Coordinator of the MSc program in Mechanical Engineering at Brunel and OsloMet. He has acted as the contact point of liaison with industry while working at Imperial College London.
