Baris studied chemistry at Istanbul Technical University (Turkey) where he received BSc and MSc degrees. He obtained his PhD at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (Germany) in the department of Markus Antonietti developing photoactive polymer composites and colloids.

After his PhD, he was promoted first to a Postdoc then to a group leader at the same institute. Currently he is affiliated to Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) – Faculty of Aerospace Engineering. His group focusses on polymer composites and manufacturing for aerospace applications, designing sustainable polymers and chemistries, frontal polymerization and composite recycling which bridges fundamental polymer chemistry to industrial polymers and composites.
