Karl Mandel (Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil.) studied Earth Sciences and Materials Science in Munich (Germany), Ulm (Germany) and Oxford (UK) and holds a PhD in Chemistry (Würzburg, Germany).

Since 2014 he heads the Particle Technology Group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research (ISC) in Würzburg (Germany). In 2020 he was appointed as Professor for Inorganic Chemistry at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany) after having finished his Habilitation in Würzburg (2020).

The research and development focus of the Mandel Group is on assembling nanoparticles to functional entities called supraparticles, mainly by means of spray-drying to create smart systems that can contribute to sustainability.
