Conference speaker
Dr. Wanaruk Chaimayo serves as the Assistant to the President in Research Strategy at Mahidol University, Thailand. He earned a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Edinburgh, UK, where his research focused on the structure of nanoparticles using x-ray diffraction techniques. Dr. Chaimayo's academic journey began with his bachelor's studies, where he designed optical systems for high-pressure environments and studied water flow under microgravity. He advanced his skills with computational simulations of coherence x-ray imaging at a 4th generation synchrotron in Germany. Following his Ph.D., Dr. Chaimayo conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York, focusing on the use of surface science and optics to detect biological substances. Transitioning from academia to intellectual property management, Dr. Chaimayo evaluated startups for various stakeholders at the University of Rochester before returning to Thailand. As Deputy Director at Mahidol University’s Technology Licensing Office, he was instrumental in establishing university-industry collaboration frameworks, creating teams, and standard operating procedures to translate academic research into practical applications. He also served on the key steering committee to form a university holding company, which has been pivotal in accelerating the transition of research products to market. In his current role as Assistant to the President in Research Strategy, Dr. Chaimayo leads the development of a researcher database to enhance collaboration across various disciplines within the university. He also manages a cross-disciplinary platform that integrates social sciences, humanities, and art with science, aiming to foster innovation and practical applications of research. Dr. Chaimayo is committed to leveraging academic research to create significant and sustainable impacts in society and to elevating Mahidol University to a world-class university, as outlined in our strategy
