Yamuna Krishnan

The University of Chicago, USA

Yamuna Krishnan is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Chicago. Her group has pioneered the development of DNA-based molecular devices to interrogate organelles in live cells. Her group has thus unplugged decades-old bottlenecks in chemical imaging and enabled the study of cell physiology at the nanoscale. Selected honors include the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award for Chemical Sciences, the Infosys Prize for Physical Sciences, and most recently, the NIH Director’s Pioneer Award. She was on Cell’s 40 under 40 list of scientists shaping current and future trends in biology. She has co-founded two companies, Esya Inc and MacroLogic Inc for diagnostics and therapeutics respectively that utilize her patented organelle-targeting nanotechnology. She serves as an Editor of Chemical Reviews and Journal of Physiology. She is a member of the SAB of the Max Planck institute of Cell biology and Genetics, and the Brain Research Foundation (USA).
