CAPES-Elsevier Awards 2024
The CAPES-Elsevier Award 2024 underscores the commitment to supporting gender equity in research
For this year's edition, the winners were selected based on the discipline-weighted citation index, which measures the impact of a work compared to others of the same type format (i.e., articles compared to articles), in the same discipline and year of publication, extracted from Elsevier's SciVal, a tool for evaluating scientific production and metrics. The data was exported as of September 25, 2024. In addition to this metric, researchers with a minimum of five (5) publications in the indicated discipline over the past five (5) years (2019-2023) were eligible for the award. Elsevier and the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) of the Ministry of Education (MEC) will hold the sixth edition of the CAPES-Elsevier Awards on November 6th at the CAPES building in the afternoon. According to the latest report on gender equity in research published by Elsevier, Progress Toward Gender Equality in Research & Innovation – 2024, Brazil ranks third in female participation in research, following Argentina and Portugal. The percentage of women among scientific publication authors in the country rose from 38% in 2002 to 49% in 2022. The report will be discussed during the award ceremony. The winning researchers are:
