Fabiola Cappia

Dr. Fabiola Cappia studied Physics and Nuclear Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. She obtained her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Technische Universität München in 2017. She joined Idaho National Laboratory in 2017, working on the Accident Tolerant Fuels Post-Irradiation Examination (PIE). Since June 2024 she is the Fuels PIE Deputy Division Director and she oversees execution of the R&D mission within the Hot Fuel Examination Facility. Her field of expertise is the post-irradiation characterization of nuclear fuels for both Light Water Reactors and Sodium-cooled Fast Reactors. Her main research interest is the study of nuclear fuel microstructure in relation to engineering fuel performance and safety.
