Professor Michael Preuss is based at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia and holds a part time position at the University of Manchester, UK, where he used to be based until 2020. Michael is a metallurgist with a wide interest in materials for highly demanding environments. He developed nuclear fuel cladding research relevant to water-cooled reactors in the UK from the early 2000s and is now developing structural nuclear materials expertise in Australia. Michael has published more than 350 peer-reviewed papers and has received several awards including the ASTM Kroll medal for his lifetime achievement in zirconium research.
