Mr Charles Cheng is currently the Section Head of the Institutional Planning and Analytics Offices (IPAO) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (“PolyU)”. He has been looking after PolyU’s ranking portfolio and university research information management system since 2021. Throughout his career, he has gained extensive experience in strategic and business management, innovation and intellectual property management, institutional research and data analytics. He leads the university research information management system initiative and supports management decisions by providing different kinds of analytics reports and data visualization and using different research databases (Scopus) to conduct the bibliometric analysis. He also takes the lead and initiates the patent alert system when he is overseeing PolyU’s patent portfolio. He is the chairman of the user group of research information management systems (Pure, Elsevier) among Hong Kong Institutes. Mr Cheng received his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Master’s degree in Technology Management from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (U.S.) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (UK).
