Charlotte Thålin

Charlotte Thålin obtained her medical degree 2010 and PhD from Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, in 2017. She is currently Associate Professor of Clinical Immunology at Karolinska Institutet and as Specialist in Internal Medicine active as Senior Consultant at the Intermediate Care Unit at Danderyd Hospital, Stockholm.
Dr Thålin is principal investigator of the COMMUNITY cohort, a longitudinal resource of blood and airway samples from >2000 healthcare workers. She has authored more than 60 publications on SARS-CoV-2 immune responses including articles in NEJM, Lancet Infectious Diseases, Lancet Microbe and JAMA. She was awarded The Jonas Söderquist Scholarship in Virology and Immunology 2020 and the Mats Halldin Prize 2023 for her contributions to the field of SARS-CoV-2 immunity and as science communicator to the public and policymakers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr Thålin’s work focuses on understanding the structural and functional role of secretory IgA in the respiratory mucosa. Her current line of research aiming to translate IgA structures to novel prophylactic and therapeutic inhalations protecting against respiratory infections was awarded the ERC Starting Grant 2024.
