Hans Heesterbeek

Hans Heesterbeek is professor of Theoretical epidemiology at Utrecht University, the Netherlands, since 2001. He has a broad research interest on the interface between biology/medicine and mathematics. His current focus is on the dynamics of infectious disease agents in ecosystems, with an overall emphasis on the development and use of mathematical tools to generate relevant biological and public health insight, most often in close collaboration with others. He also has an active research interest in the history of infectious disease epidemiology. Together with Neil Ferguson, he established the journal Epidemics, and they served as its Editors-in-chief for the first 10 years. He has been involved in organizing the Epidemics conferences from the start.
