Tzachi Hagai

Talk Title: The Evolutionary Paradox of Host-Virus Interactions

Tzachi Hagai is a group leader in Tel Aviv University, studying the co-evolution of viruses with their hosts, with a particular focus on the innate immune response against viruses.

His research group studies how the evolutionary arms race between pathogens and their hosts shaped the immune system and influenced human susceptibility to diseases. Furthermore, his group studies the interactions formed between viral and host proteins, to understand how viruses successfully modulate host machineries.

Dr Hagai did his PhD at the Weizmann Institute, Israel. He then carried out postdoctoral research in UCSF, in the virology group of Raul Andino, and in the group of Sarah Teichmann at the Sanger Institute, UK, on comparative genomics of innate immunity.
