Ali Mehmanparast (PhD, MBA, CEng, CMgr) is a Professor of Structural Integrity at the University of Strathclyde. He serves as a Co-I and management board member of the £6.7M Strathclyde-Oxford-Edinburgh Centre for Doctoral Training in Wind and Marine Energy Systems and Structures (WAMSS CDT: 2019–2027) and was previously the Co-I and Manager of the £4M Cranfield-Oxford-Strathclyde Centre for Doctoral Training in Renewable Energy Marine Structures (REMS CDT: 2014–2022). Throughout these CDT leadership roles, he has played a pivotal role in training over 120 PhD and EngD specialists, preparing them as future leaders in the Offshore Renewable Energy sector. Additionally, he has co-led several flagship research projects in the offshore renewable energy sector, including the £7.5M EPSRC-funded Co-Tide Programme Grant (Co-design to Deliver Scalable Tidal Stream Energy) and the £3M industry/DECC-funded SLIC Joint Industry Project (Offshore Wind Structural Lifecycle Industry Collaboration).
Prof. Mehmanparast received both his MEng (2008) and PhD (2012) degrees from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London, and he also holds an MBA from Cranfield University. Before joining the University of Strathclyde in 2022, he held academic roles at Imperial College London and Cranfield University, progressing from Research Associate to Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Reader between 2012 and 2021.
Prof. Mehmanparast is a Chartered Engineer of IMechE, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Chartered Manager of CMI and Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. He is the Energy Engineering Subject Editor of International Journal of Engineering Failure Analysis (Elsevier), and serves on the editorial boards of a few other prominent international journals, including Applied Ocean Research (Elsevier), Forces in Mechanics (Elsevier), Materials at High Temperatures (Taylor & Francis), Journal of Multiscale Modelling (World Scientific), and Wind (MDPI).
With a portfolio of over 130 peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters in the field of energy structures, Prof. Mehmanparast is an active contributor to international research and knowledge dissemination with a rich network of academic and industrial collaborators. He has also organised and chaired numerous international conferences, further solidifying his leadership in the field of engineering structural integrity.
