Please briefly describe who you are and your institution.

From Institute Jantung Negara (IJN), Malaysia, we are; Cheong Ping Pau – Clinical Fellow in Cardiothoracic Surgery Aimie Razali – Medical Officer Chong Kee Soon – Clinical Fellow Christina Shoba Rajamanickam – Clinical Fellow/Specialist Registrar in Cardiothoracic Department.

Can you share 2-3 challenges you faced in your practice before ClinicalKey?

Institute Jantung Negara (IJN), also known as the National Heart Institute, is a premier institution for advanced cardiovascular and thoracic medicine in Malaysia. Accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), IJN provides world-class medical care that puts patients first. IJN also ensures the continuous well-being and knowledge development of its staff, which is critical for achieving clinical excellence.

Consistent, high-quality patient care requires collaboration across highly skilled care teams; engagement of patients in their care, and evidence-based clinical decisions incorporated into the care process. Before ClinicalKey there was a lack of knowledge available and limited time to resource it. There was too much irrelevant information on Google with poor-quality of articles. We had difficulty searching for reliable sources for studying purposes. Basically, the amount of information “available” was overwhelming, and unreliable and we had very limited time to sift through it and identify evidence-based content.

How do you think ClinicalKey can help you address these challenges?

ClinicalKey is a very comprehensive, detailed, full-text source of evidence-based content from the leading medical publisher in the world, Elsevier. We can be sure that the quality of content is unquestionable. With ClinicalKey we can now access credible information and knowledge fast. ClinicalKey is an advanced curated search engine with filtering functionalities that help us optimize our search and save time. It is a reliable, easy-to-use source for studying, research and practice.

How does ClinicalKey help you all in your daily work?

IJN aspires to be a global center of excellence in cardiovascular and thoracic care by providing the highest quality, safest care to patients and outstanding healthcare services. This very mission makes it imperative for IJN to invest in world-class, evidence-based clinical decision support systems so that the quality of care and patient experience provided at the institute meet and exceed global standards. ClinicalKey helps us to deliver evidence-based care whilst improving efficiency. It is being used for research as well. Whilst of course, a simple Google search is more comprehensive and lends more results, we do find that ClinicalKey provides high-quality research content.

Please state how ClinicalKey has impacted your work.

With ClinicalKey I practically have knowledge in my pocket. The Elsevier team has shown us how easy it is to use the platform, whether on my laptop, tablet or smartphone. It offers the ease of use that comes with its friendly user interface. Being able to quickly and efficiently access full-text articles and books easily really helps save time.
