Step Forward: Dr Colin Turner, General Radiologist

Please briefly describe who you are and your role. 

I am Dr Colin Turner, a senior partner in Drs Van Rensburg and Partners, a large radiology private practice based in South Africa. I am primarily a general radiologist reporting across most subspecialities and also oncology, but I have a specific interest in musculoskeletal imaging.   

What problems were you attempting to solve when you started using STATdx? 

I was looking to find a single reliable source of information that remains updated, which can help me in problem solving complex cases and cases unfamiliar to me. I specifically wanted information that is both concise and well-presented but also updated, evidence-based guidance. I wanted to avoid time consuming searching across multiple platforms and journal articles. 

From your point of view, what are the biggest benefits you found in using STATdx in your day to day routine? 

I have found that time saving in findings answers I need has been my biggest benefit. Also accessing easily available differential diagnoses has been very useful with the additional ability to read further about a differential diagnosis at just a click of the button.  

How do you use STATdx in your day-to-day workflow? 

I access STATdx daily, mostly to confirm a diagnosis I have in mind or to help me find a specific diagnosis and differential list. I also use it regularly to confirm anatomy and to help provide guidance to clinicians in recommending further imaging or other investigations that may help. 

If you had a colleague that was considering STATdx, what would you tell them? 

I would advise a colleague that STATdx would help provide them with valuable confidence in their decision making and concurrently save them time in finding their answers. The vast images available and the concise well laid out text make STATdx very useful, and perhaps an indispensable tool in the daily arsenal for helping patients.
