Science of Sustainable Systems

Aim & scope

Sustainability Science is a rapidly growing, interdisciplinary field that requires a systems-level approach, integrating the many disciplines, in order to make the necessary progress toward a sustainable Earth. As such, it is important to dive deeper into environmental and societal principles to apply them to a variety of real-world contexts. Thus, the main goal of the series will be to develop an understanding of:

  1. the principles of traditional/fundamental science

  2. the applications of those principles to diverse real-world settings

  3. the necessary bridge and translation processes in both directions – from basic science to specific applications, and from interpretations of specific applications to inform the basic science.

Science of Sustainable Systems

Audience

Graduate students, researchers, and professionals working in sustainability, ecology, environmental science, earth science, engineering, environmental management and related fields. Also relevant for those actively seeking to apply sustainability science principles in specific socio-economic, environmental, built environment, and cultural contexts and in which application and continued research are combined or complementary.
