The European Federation of Corrosion โ€œGreenโ€ Books Series

Aim & scope

There is not a single life on this planet that is not affected by the effects, impact, and costs of corrosion. The effects of corrosion can lead to collapse of buildings, bridges, and roads as well as corrosion of components in planes, trains, automobiles, and industrial equipment. Energy and utility companies are also in a constant battle against corrosion. Corrosion causes tremendous financial costs, health and safety issues and loss of life.

The European Federation of Corrosion (EFC) was founded in 1955 and is a federation of more than 40 organizations based in more than 20 countries. Its member societies represent the corrosion interests of 25,000 scientists, technicians, and engineers. The federationsโ€™ aim is to advance the science of corrosion and protection of materials by promoting international collaboration.

The administration of the EFC is in the hands of the Board of Administrators, chaired by the EFC President. Scientific and technical affairs are the responsibility of the Science and Technology Advisory Committee (STAC). The Federation is managed through its General Secretariat with three shared headquarters located in London, Paris, and Frankfurt.

The EFC carries out most of its important activities through more than 20 active working parties devoted to various aspects of corrosion and its prevention, covering a large range of topics including: Corrosion and Scale Inhibition, Corrosion by Hot Gases and Combustion Products, Nuclear Corrosion, Environment Sensitive Fracture, Surface Science and Mechanisms of Corrosion and Protection, Physicochemical Methods of Corrosion Testing, Corrosion Education, Marine Corrosion, Microbial Corrosion, Corrosion of Steel in Concrete, Corrosion in Oil and Gas Production, Coatings, Corrosion in the Refinery Industry, Cathodic Protection, Automotive Corrosion, Tribo-Corrosion, Corrosion of Polymer Materials, Corrosion and Corrosion Protection of Drinking Water Systems, Corrosion of Archaeological and Historical Artifacts, Corrosion in Green and Low Carbon Energy Technologies, and Corrosion & Corrosion Protection of Additively Manufactured Metals.

The European Federation of Corrosionโ€™s flagship event is EUROCORR, the most important Corrosion Congress in Europe, which is held annually each year. Another channel for the EFCโ€™s valuable transfer of knowledge is the EFC โ€œGreenโ€ Book Series which contains high-level scientific content and is the fruit of collaboration from various members of the EFC working parties.
