Harvey Yi Huang

The University of Edinburgh, UK

Prof. Harvey Yi Huang is a Reader in Advanced Applied Materials and Interfaces at the University of Edinburgh (UoE). He received a PhD degree in 2011 at Monash University with Profs Huanting Wang and Anita Hill. In 2010, He also had an exchange study at Prof Michael Tsapatsis’s group at the University of Minnesota−Twin Cities. Before joining UoE, he was a senior postdoctoral fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Currently, he leads a research team aiming to develop innovative nanofabrication methodologies for smart and functional 2D and 3D nanoporous materials. His group applies advanced characterizations to understand and engineer their nanostructures, compositions, and surface properties to address challenging issues in many industrially important processes, such as membrane separation, gas storage, water remediation, and anti-cancer drug delivery. His research has been strengthened by substantial industrial interactions with more than £2.1 million funded for fundamental research and commercialization.

Prof. Huang has published papers in Science, Angewandte Chemie, Separation and Purification Technology, Journal of Membrane Science, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Journal of Catalysis, etc. with SCI citations >5000 times and an H-index of 27. Prof. Huang has several editorial duties, e.g., Editor of Results in Engineering; Editorial Board Member and Guest Editor of Separation and Purification Technology and Sustainability; and Youth Editorial Board Member of Advanced Membranes and Green Chemical Engineering. He was elected for the 2022 RINENG Distinguished Young Investigator Award, the 2022 ISPT-BMS Young Membrane Scientist Award, and the 2023Separation and Purification Technology Distinguished Young Scholar.
