Quick Facts
The deep artery of penis is one of the two terminal branches of the internal pudendal artery, the other being the dorsal artery of penis.
From its origin, within the deep perineal pouch, it travels anteromedially, pierces the perineal membrane and enters the ipsilateral corpus cavernosum of penis. It then travels through the length of the corpus cavernosum of penis, all the way distally to the glans penis.
The deep artery of penis provides an arterial supply to the ipsilateral corpus cavernosum of penis, which is a component of the erectile tissue in males.
The deep artery of clitoris is the female equivalent of the deep artery of penis. It provides an arterial supply to the clitoris.
