Origin

As the superior gluteal artery exits the greater sciatic foramen, superior to the piriformis, it divides into the superficial and deep branch of the superior gluteal artery.

Course

The deep branch runs laterally between the gluteus medius and the ilium. It then runs on the gluteus minimus and divides into superior and inferior branches.

Branches

The deep branch of the superior gluteal divides into the superior and the inferior branches of the deep branch of the superior gluteal artery.

Supplied Structures

The deep branch supplies the gluteus medius, the gluteus minimus, and the tensor fascia latae muscles.
