Quick Facts
The dorsal artery of penis is one of the two terminal branches of the internal pudendal artery, the other being the deep artery of penis.
From its origin, within the deep perineal pouch, it travels anteriorly, pierces the perineal membrane and travels between the crura of penis to enter the penis. It then travels along the dorsum of the penis, deep to the fascia of penis, all the way distally to the glans penis. It is accompanied by the deep dorsal vein of penis and dorsal nerve of penis.
The dorsal artery of penis provides an arterial supply to the corpus spongiosum of penis, which is a component of the erectile tissue in males, and the prepuce and glans penis.
The dorsal artery of clitoris is the female equivalent of the dorsal artery of penis. It provides an arterial supply to the clitoris.
