Origin

The infrahyoid branch of the superior thyroid artery arises from the superior thyroid artery, the first branch of the external carotid artery.

Course

The infrahyoid branch of the superior thyroid artery extends along the inferior border of the hyoid bone, deep the thyrohyoid muscle.

Branches

There are no named branches of the infrahyoid branch of the superior thyroid artery; however, it does form an anastomosis with its fellow branch from the opposite side.

Supplied Structures

The infrahyoid branch of the superior thyroid artery supplies the infrahyoid strap muscles, including sternohyoid, sternothyroid, thyrohyoid, and omohyoid.
