Origin

The lumbar branch of the iliolumbar artery is one of two branches of the iliolumbar artery, the other being the iliacus branch. The iliolumbar artery divides posterior to the medial border of psoas major muscle.

Course

The lumbar branch ascends to on the psoas major and quadratus lumborum muscles and extends to anastomose with the fourth lumbar artery.

Branches

The lumbar branch of iliolumbar artery sends small spinal branches to the intervertebral foramen.

Supplied Structures

The lumbar branch of the iliolumbar artery provides a blood supply to muscles such as psoas major and minor and quadratus lumborum muscles. Additionally, the spinal branches originating from the lumbar branch of iliolumbar artery supplies the cauda equina in the vertebral canal.
