Quick Facts

The pontine arteries are a number of small vessels that arise from the basilar artery. They are subdivided into groups of medial and lateral branches:

- The medial branches are made up of the shorter pontine arteries, which lie along the anterior surface of the pons.

- The lateral branches are made up of the longer pontine arteries, which travel further and lie along both the anterior and lateral surfaces of the pons.

The pontine arteries provide an arterial supply to the pons and adjacent parts of the brain.
