Origin
The saphenous branch arises from the descending genicular artery, a branch arising from the femoral artery before the point where it passes through the adductor hiatus.
Course
The saphenous branch of the descending genicular artery pierces the adductor canal and descends with the saphenous nerve deep to the sartorius muscle. It continues distally along the medial aspect of the knee joint.
Branches
There are no named branches of the saphenous branch of the descending genicular artery; however, it does contribute to the genicular anastomosis.
Supplied Structures
The saphenous branch of the descending genicular artery supplies the knee joint. It also contributes to the vascular supply of the cutaneous and subcutaneous tissue of the medial aspect of the proximal leg.
