Ramus superior arteriae gluteae superioris
Read moreQuick Facts
Origin: Deep branch of superior gluteal artery.
Course: Laterally between gluteus medius and minimus muscles.
Branches: Anastomoses with the deep circumflex iliac artery and a branch of the lateral circumflex artery.
Supplied Structures: Gluteus medius and minimus muscles.
Origin
The deep branch of the superior gluteal artery runs laterally between the gluteus medius and minimus muscles and divides into a superior and an inferior branch.
Course
The superior branch runs along the superior border of the gluteus minimus muscle as far as the anterior superior iliac spine.
Branches
It anastomoses with the deep circumflex iliac artery and also with the ascending branch of lateral circumflex femoral artery.
Supplied Structures
It aids in the arterial supply of the gluteus medius and the gluteus minimus muscles. It also aids in the supply of the ileum and lateral aspect of the hip via its anastomoses.
