Origin
The vaginal branch of uterine artery originates at the uterocervical junction, where the uterine artery bifurcates into an ascending and descending branch. The descending branch is also known as the vaginal branch of uterine artery.
Course
It descends along the lateral aspect of the cervical and vaginal walls.
Branches
The vaginal branches of the uterine artery give a series of azygos arteries which form anterior and posterior median longitudinal arteries along the external vaginal wall.
Supplied Structures
The vaginal branches of the uterine artery supply the upper vagina. However, the contribution of the vaginal branch of the uterine artery to the vasculature of the vagina is highly variable.
