Key Features/Anatomical Relations

The septomarginal trabecula is an important band of muscle that extends from the lower portion of the interventricular septum to the base of the anterior papillary muscle.

Function

The septomarginal trabecula carries the right branch of the atrioventricular bundle. It contracts during ventricular systole, where it coordinates contraction of the anterior papillary muscle and, therefore, aids in coordinated ventricular contraction.
