Quick Facts
Origin: Deep venous palmar arch.
Course: Superiorly along anterior aspect of the interosseous membrane between the radius and ulna.
Tributaries: No named branches.
Drainage: Anterior and posterior forearm.
Origin
The anterior interosseous vein is formed by the union of dorsal and palmar carpal veins. The anterior interosseous veins accompany its corresponding artery and unite with posterior interosseous veins.
Course
From its origin, the anterior interosseous vein travels superiorly along the anterior aspect of the interosseous membrane. It ends by draining into the ulnar vein, near the elbow joint.
Tributaries
Along its course, small unnamed branches drain into anterior interosseous vein.
Structures Drained
Overall, the anterior interosseous vein and its tributaries provide venous drainage to the muscles of the anterior forearm.
