Origin
The deep lingual vein begins near the tip of the tongue.
Course
Following its commencement at the tip of the tongue, the deep lingual vein runs backwards on its inferior surface, in close approximation with the mucous membrane. The deep lingual vein joins the sublingual vein near the anterior border of the hyoglossus muscle. This results in formation of the vena comitans of the hypoglossal nerve, which runs back and accompanies the hypoglossal nerve in a plane between mylohyoid and hyoglossus muscles.
Tributaries
There are no named tributaries.
Structures Drained
The deep lingual vein drains the tip and inferior surfaces of the tongue.
