Origin

The dorsal lingual vein begins on the dorsum and sides of the tongue.

Course

The dorsal lingual vein passes posteriorly and joins the vena comitans of hypoglossal nerve to form the lingual vein. It eventually drains into the internal jugular vein near the greater cornu of the hyoid bone.

There are no named tributaries.
