Origin: Plantar surface of the foot.
Course: Unites with the lateral plantar vein to form the posterior tibial vein.
Tributaries: Plantar venous arch.
Drainage: Foot.
Related parts of the anatomy
Origin
The medial plantar vein arises on the medial aspect of the foot.
Course
The medial plantar vein passes between the abductor hallucis and flexor digitorum brevis muscles, accompanied by the medial plantar artery. They unite with the lateral plantar vein to form the posterior tibial vein.
Tributaries
The medial plantar vein receives the plantar venous arch.
Structures Drained
The medial plantar vein drains the medial aspect of the foot, including the abductor hallucis, flexor digitorum brevis, and quadratus plantae muscles (Ricci et al, 2014).
