Origin

The lingual vein originates on the dorsal, inferior, and lateral surface of the tongue. It is formed by the union of the dorsal lingual vein and the vena comitans of the hypoglossal nerve.

Course

The lingual vein follows the course of the lingual artery and joins with the common facial vein, which drains into the internal jugular vein.

Tributaries

The lingual vein receives the deep lingual and sublingual veins via the vena comitans of the hypoglossal nerve and the dorsal lingual vein.
