Description

The major veins are responsible for the venous return of blood to the heart. The superior and inferior venae cavae collect deoxygenated blood from the body and return it to the right atrium. Blood is then pumped to the lungs and oxygenated blood is returned to the left atrium via the pulmonary veins where it is returned to the systemic circulation via the left ventricle and the aorta.
