Origin
The superior thyroid veins originate from a glandular venous plexus. The venous plexus is also linked to the middle and inferior thyroid veins.
Course
The superior thyroid vein passes laterally from its glandular point of origin and is accompanied by the superior thyroid artery. The superior thyroid vein crosses anterior to the common carotid artery and drains into the internal jugular vein.
Tributaries
Superior thyroid vein receives the superior laryngeal and cricothyroid veins.
Structures Drained
The superior thyroid vein drains the thyroid gland.
