Related parts of the anatomy
Origin
The uterine veins originate from the union of veins from the uterine plexus on either side of the cervix.
Course
From its origin, the uterine vein travels through the broad ligament. It then travels laterally and superiorly within the pelvis to drain directly into the internal iliac vein.
Tributaries
Veins from the uterine venous plexus unite to form the uterine vein. Indirectly, the veins from the vagina venous plexus also drain into the uterine veins via the uterovaginal venous plexus.
Structures Drained
The uterine vein drains the lateral sides of the uterus and the vagina.
