Related parts of the anatomy
Origin
The uterine venous plexus surrounds the uterus on both sides of the cervix.
Course
Small tributaries of the uterine venous plexus unite to form the single uterine vein. The uterine vein enters the broad ligament and travel laterally and superiorly, within the pelvis to drain into the internal iliac vein.
Tributaries
Veins from the uterine venous plexus unite to form the uterine vein. Indirectly, the veins from the vaginal venous plexus also drain into the uterine veins, via the uterovaginal venous plexus.
Structures Drained
The uterine vein drains the lateral sides of the uterus and the vagina.
