Description

Venous drainage of the vertebral column and its contents is completed by intricate venous plexuses the extends the length of the vertebral column and is located internal and external to the vertebral canal. The vertebral venous plexus is composed of valveless veins, which are free to anastomose with each other. Additionally, the venous plexus communicates with the dural venous sinuses, and with the deep veins of the neck and pelvis. This expansive open pathway may allow for the spread of malignancies and sepsis.
