Origin
The deep lingual vein joins the sublingual vein (from the sublingual gland) near the anterior border of the hyoglossus muscle to form vena comitans of the hypoglossal nerve.
Course
The vena comitans travel backwards along with the hypoglossal nerve in a loop-like fashion. It joins with the dorsal lingual vein to form the lingual vein, which eventually drains into the internal jugular vein via the common facial vein.
Tributaries
The vena comitans receives the deep lingual and sublingual veins.
Structures Drained
The vena comitans drains the Inferior and deep structures of the tongue.
