Structure

The talonavicular ligament is a broad, thin fibrous band that arises from the dorsal and lateral surfaces of the neck of the talus. It extends distally to the dorsal surface of the navicular bone.

Anatomical Relations

The talonavicular ligament is covered by the tendinous sheaths of the extensor digitorum longus and extensor hallucis longus muscles.

Function

The talonavicular ligament, along with the plantar calcaneonavicular and bifurcate ligaments, help stabilize the talocalcaneonavicular joint.
