The radiate sternochondral ligaments attach the anterior and posterior surfaces of the medial ends of the costal cartilages to the sternal surfaces.

Structure

The fibers of the radiate sternochondral ligaments fan out, such that their fibers intermingle with the adjacent ligaments above and below, and with fibers from the opposite side. The tendinous fibers of the pectoralis major muscles also blend with the radiate sternochondral ligaments.

Function

The radiate sternochondral ligaments secure the costal cartilages to the sternum.
