Anatomical Relations

The accessory collateral metacarpophalangeal ligaments are fan-shaped, triangular fibrous bands that attach to each side of the metacarpophalangeal joint, holding the joint firmly in place. They extend obliquely from the anterior tubercle on the lateral surface of the metacarpal heads to the lateral margin of the palmar ligaments of the metacarpophalangeal joint (Lourie, Gaston and Freeland, 2006).
