Anatomical Relations

The palmar ligaments of the interphalangeal joints are thick fibrocartilaginous structures located on the palmar aspect of the interphalangeal joints. They are thicker towards their distal attachments and this portion is referred to as the palmar or volar plate, and its distal attachment is strong. Proximally and more centrally, the ligament is thinner and blends with the periosteum of the phalanges (Standring, 2016).
